Cava La Pedicara company, based in Balvano, deals with the trade of gravel and sand throughout Italy and it is part of the Santagata Group, founded by Gerardo Santagata. After a long experience in Cuneo, he returned to Balvano to pursue a career in the current quarry, which he purchased in 1978 with other two partners. Since 1993, Gerardo has started the Santagata Group together with his sons Stanislao, Vincenzo and Angelo, taking over the entire quarry.

A turnaround at the quarry

In the early years the quarry suffered from a certain dispersion of production in a competitive regime; for this reason, starting from 2005 the Santagata Group has carried out a study of the product's applications on the market, gradually renewing the plants.

The dolomite in the hands of the Group offers high purity materials, and this led to a detailed investigation of its application in the sectors of trade in gravel, sand and other materials: this is where the history of the Group takes a turn, going away from the construction and bitumen to address other fields of use.

The evolution of the quarry

The history Cava La Pedicara, today leader of the gravel and sand trade in Italy, is told by a series of images, which clearly show the evolution of the project. The first photographs date back to 30 years ago, underlining how important it is to evolve and update oneself for realities such as the Santagata Group, that is now flourishing.
